Strengthening Tobacco Control to Achieve SDG 3.4 on NCDs: A Global Imperative

21st novembre 2025 · 13:30 - 14:45

The Political Declaration reffered for adoption after the fourth UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs and Mental Health (HLM4) includes a target and series of commitments to advance tobacco control in the world. This includes the target of 150 million fewer people using tobacco by 2030, as well as renewed commitments to implement tobacco control measures including excise taxes, health warnings, restrictions on TAPS, reducing second-hand exposure, and promoting evidence-based cessation programmes.

The WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) remains the most powerful legal and policy tool available to reduce tobacco use at the country level and help countries achieve SDG targets 3.a and 3.4.

On the sidelines of the elevenths Conference of the Parties (COP11) to WHO FCTC, NCD Alliance, together with partners, organises a side-event convening Member States, civil society and international partners to explore how we can fulfil the commitments made in the Political Declaration and save lives from NCDs caused by tobacco.

Please note that attendance at this event will be limited to WHO FCTC COP11 delegates and will be on a first-come, first-served basis until room capacity is reached. We kindly encourage advance registration to help us monitor attendance and make any necessary arrangements ahead of the event.
