Since beginning active grantmaking in 2008, Helmsley has committed more than $4 billion for a wide range of charitable purposes. The Helmsley Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) Program is the largest private foundation funder in the world with a focus on T1D, with more than $1 billion to date committed to transform the trajectory of the disease and to accelerate access to 21st century care, everywhere. Bridging Gaps with Integrated Solutions

Children diagnosed with type 1 diabetes face a heartbreaking reality. Where they live determines how long they live. In some places, children lose 50 years to this treatable condition. The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust refuses to accept this injustice.

The Helmsley Charitable Trust is dedicated to creating better futures for people by expanding access to healthcare, advancing innovative research and ideas, and enhancing the quality of everyday life. As the world's largest private funder focused on type 1 diabetes, Helmsley has committed over $1 billion to accelerate access to 21st century care everywhere. Through that work, the Trust has learned a powerful truth: you cannot address one disease in isolation. People with diabetes don't exist in silos.

That’s why Helmsley embraces holistic, integrated solutions. Beyond support for diabetes programs, Helmsley partners and grantees are working across the globe to strengthen whole health systems and put people at the center of their care. With support from the T1D Community Fund, organizations are strengthening local lifelines and standing together for lasting change. Through PEN-Plus, countries across Africa are bringing care closer to home for people living with severe chronic conditions. And thanks to the NCD Alliance, the global health community is amplifying the voices of people living with chronic diseases and working toward a safer, healthier future for all.
